Frequently asked questions about SoundKey
SoundKey is a device that connects to the intercom you already have (analogue, 2-wire or video intercom) and opens the building door when someone rings: because you switched it on from your phone, or because it's a booking's arrival day. No building work and no need to replace the intercom.
Compatibility
Which intercoms does SoundKey work with?
With any intercom or video intercom whose door-release button is a physical push button (it goes down when you press it): analogue, digital 2-wire and video intercoms from Fermax, Tegui, Golmar, Comelit, Urmet, Bticino, Auta and other brands. See the list by brand.
Does it work with touch buttons?
Not yet: compatibility with touch buttons and touch screens is in development. If your intercom has touch controls, join the waitlist and tell us; we'll let you know as soon as it's ready.
Why does it work with 2-wire intercoms when Nuki or Ring don't?
Nuki Opener and Ring Intercom mimic the intercom's electrical signals, and in 2-wire systems each manufacturer uses its own protocol. SoundKey doesn't mimic signals: it presses the door-release button. More details.
My intercom only opens with the handset lifted. Will it work?
A version that lifts the handset automatically is in development. Mention it when you join the waitlist so we can let you know.
How it works and security
How do I open the building door from my phone?
In the app you tap “Open” or switch SoundKey on for the next few hours. When the person rings the intercom, SoundKey hears the buzzer and opens the door. That way the door never opens with nobody in front of it.
Can I give access to someone who doesn't have the app?
Yes. In the app you create a link for that person (family, cleaner, a guest) and choose whether it works always, between two dates or only on certain days and hours. When they arrive, they open the link on their phone, tap “I'm about to ring” and ring the intercom: the door opens. You can turn the link off whenever you like. Every booking already has its own.
Does it open for anyone who rings?
No. Only when you've switched it on or during a booking's arrival window. The rest of the time the intercom works as usual.
What happens if the internet or WiFi goes down?
If it was already opening for an arrival, it keeps opening until that window ends. To switch on new openings it needs a connection. Your intercom and your keys keep working as always.
What WiFi does it need?
A normal 2.4 GHz WiFi network, the one at home or in the holiday let. Setup is done from your phone in a couple of minutes.
Is there a record of who comes in?
The app shows every time the buzzer has rung and every opening, with the time, as well as the battery level and WiFi signal.
Installation and battery
How is it installed?
You open the cover of the intercom in your flat and connect two wires to the door-release button's contacts; on some models they need to be soldered. SoundKey sits next to the intercom, in its own case. No building work and no new intercom.
Does it need a power socket?
No. It has a rechargeable lithium battery and charges over USB-C, like a phone.
How long does the battery last?
We're measuring real battery life on devices running every day. We'll publish the figures once testing is finished, rather than quote a number we haven't verified. The app warns you when the battery is low.
Is it legal? Do I need permission from the community of owners?
SoundKey is installed on the intercom in your own home, without touching the building's shared installation, and does the same as pressing the door-release button. If your community of owners has its own rules on access, it's worth checking with them.
Price
How much does SoundKey cost?
It's not on sale yet. The planned price is €10 a month with the device included and a 12-month minimum term, plus the GoToCheck.pro Premium plan free for the first year. It may change before launch.
What is GoToCheck.pro and what does the free plan include?
GoToCheck.pro is our online check-in and guest registration software for holiday rentals, made in Granada. The Premium plan (€7.45 a month + VAT per property) includes check-in from the phone with no app to download, an ID card and passport scanner, a rental agreement with digital signature, automatic submission of guest reports to SES.Hospedajes (or to the Mossos and Ertzaintza), reservation import, receipts and invoices, tourist tax collection, smart locks with a unique code per booking that the guest receives on completing check-in, and guest extras (cot, parking, late check-out…). With SoundKey you get it free for the first year.
Is there a subscription?
Yes: the service includes the device, the app, the connection to your reservations and updates. In return, you don't pay for the device.
What happens if the company shuts down?
It's a fair question: other door openers such as Nello stopped working when their company closed. Your intercom never stops working, because SoundKey is simply added to the button.
